MAIN FESTIVAL VENUES Kino Šiška Center for Urban Culture

Kino Šiška has been the central Slovenian institution of the contemporary concert scene since 2009, complemented by activities in visual and performing arts.

Kino Šiška was built in 1961 and is one of the first buildings characterised by modernist architecture. The building is the work of Slovenian architect Božidar Gvardjančič. It’s positioned in the centre of the suburban neighbourhood, with the main facade overlooking the shopping mall towards Celovška Street.

Metelkova City Autonomous Cultural Centre

Metelkova (aka Avtonomni kulturni center Metelkova mesto) is an autonomous social and cultural centre in Ljubljana. The site was the military headquarters of the Army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then it became the Yugoslav National Army headquarter. It consists of seven buildings (former military barracks) with a total area of 12,500 m², squatted since September 1993.

Today Metelkova is home to numerous cultural organisations, including concert venues, gallery spaces, social spaces, artists’ and artisans’ studios. Outdoor events are mostly held on the "Square without Historic Memory" (Trg brez zgodovniskega spomina).
