Open Call for Artist-in-Residence

KUD Mreža and the Institute of Urban Questions are opening a call for artists. We offer a residency with a one-month working stay at the Asylum Studio (Atelje Azil), Ljubljana, Autonomous Cultural Cone Metelkova City, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The selected artist will have the opportunity to:

• Realize a visual project at Gallery Alkatraz (Metelkova); 
• Realize a public artistic intervention (e.g. sculpture, installation, mural painting) within the walls of ACC Metelkova mesto;
• Present her/his work within the framework of the Ljubljana Street Art Festival.

The selected artist will receive: 

• An artist’s fee and a budget for materials in the amount of 2,200 EUR;
• Accommodation in a living-and-working studio for the duration of 5 weeks;
• Production infrastructure and professional curatorial support;

Moreover, if health conditions permit, the artist will also have the possibility to attend an opening event or to a meet-and-greet event.

Deadline for applications: 4 May 2022

Duration of the residency: 1 June – 7 July 2022.

Location: ACC Metelkova mesto, Ljubljana (Alktraz Gallery and Studio Asylum).

ARTISTS ELIGIBILITY

Who can apply to the Open Call for Artist-in-Residence 2022?

Contemporary artists with experience in the visual and interdisciplinary arts, regardless of gender or age. Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• The appropriateness of the design and materials proposed.
• Submitted project budget or estimate of costs.
• Demonstration of experience and expertise.
• Responsiveness to enquiries and proposals.

Unfortunately, the residential studio does not provide access for people with limited mobility. 

APPLICATION SUBMITTAL PROCEDURE

Please send a completed application to galerija.alkatraz@gmail.com with the subject “Application for the Artist at the Working Challenge” followed by your name. The application must contain the following information:

1. Project description and supporting materials (description of the project and planned activities, max. 2500 characters) 
2. An artist portfolio (CV) in English with 3 examples of your most recent work (the file must be in JPG or PDF format) 
3. Contact information (first name, surname, address, date of birth, nationality, permanent and temporary residence, contact number, email address, website/social media).
4. Other visual material you would like to use to illustrate your proposed work and skills as an artist. Please attach no more than two (in JPG or PDF format). 

The Selection Committee will review applications by 11 May 2022. All artists will be notified of the result of the selection and the finalist will be invited to Ljubljana.
